Kiteboarding in Brazil’s Ceara region is a dream come true for many travelers like me. The consistent wind, warm waters, and variety of spots make it one of the best kite destinations worldwide. I explored some of the top kitespots in Ceara, including Taiba, Paracuru, Ilha do Guajiru, Guriu with the Tatajuba downwinder, and finally Cumbuco. Each place has its unique vibe, conditions, and local charm, so I want to share my personal experience, pros and cons, and tips on where to stay and eat.

Taiba: The Perfect Start for Kite Travel
Taiba is a small fishing village that quickly became one of my favorite kite spots in Ceara. The wind here is steady and reliable from July to January, making it ideal for both beginners and advanced riders. Taiba offers a mix of flat water lagoons and ocean waves, so you can choose your style.
Pros:
Consistent wind and warm water
Variety of conditions: flat water lagoons and ocean waves
Laid-back village atmosphere with friendly locals
Cons:
Taiba lagoon can get very crowded during peak season
Where to stay: I stayed at a cozy guesthouse called Pousada WeGo Kite, which is situated at the beach. It offers simple but comfortable rooms with ensuit bathrooms and a great breakfast.
Where to eat: Our favourite places to eat were Bougainvillea, which had an extensive menu and is a must-visit, Petit Bistro, where I had the most amazing steak and my partner Gabbs enjoyed their amazing seafood. The Rooftop restaurant might have a nice vibe at sunset, but for an evening meal it wasn't anything special and in my view it was well overpriced so we will not be going back.
Paracuru: A Kite Spot with a Local Vibe
Paracuru is a lively town with a strong kiteboarding community. The Quebra Mar spot is famous for its strong wind and flat water lagoon mid to low tide, perfect for freestyle and beginners looking to improve their skills.
Pros:
Flat water lagoon mid to low tide - great for freestyle tricks
Strong and steady wind almost every day
Vibrant local kite scene and kite shops
Cons:
The town can feel busy and less relaxed than other spots
Some parts of the lagoon can be shallow at low tide
Where to stay: I recommend Beach House Paracuru B&B, which has everything you need.
Where to eat: Try La Petite Maison Quebra Mar for tasty local and international dishes as well as friendly atmosphere, whilst watching kitesurfing and winging action. Acai Bowl for lunch with a coconut water is a must here!

Ilha do Guajiru: A Lagoon Paradise
Ilha do Guajiru is a hidden gem for kite travelers. The lagoon here is huge and flat, with shallow water that stretches for kilometers. It’s perfect for long sessions without worrying about waves or rocks.
Pros:
Massive flat water lagoon ideal for all levels
Great choice of schools and restaurants
Cons:
Can get very busy at high tide
Can be very gusty especially up wind
Where to stay: We have very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Gara, and would definitely recommend it.
Where to eat: Lots of great places to eat, but my firm favourite was DoMar Brazil. Amazing food and presentation. Not to be missed!
Guriu and the Tatajuba Downwinder: Adventure and Variety
Guriu is famous for its strong wind, great lagoon, beautiful mangroves and the incredible Tatajuba downwinder, a must-do for any kite traveler in Ceara. The downwinder takes you through dunes, lagoons, and small villages, offering a mix of flat water and waves.
Pros:
Exciting downwinder route with varied conditions
Strong wind and less crowded spots along the way
Stunning natural landscapes and dunes
Cons:
The downwinder requires good kite skills and planning
Limited accommodation & restaurant options in Guriu itself
Where to stay: I stayed in DuMangue Kite House, which is simple but very welcoming and close to the kite beach.
Where to eat: The choices are limited here, but there is an amazing value Guriu Grill and an Italian restaurant Fly Guriu which is actually quite pricey, but has a very funny and eccentric Italian owner, who will fill you in on all the local gossip.
Cumbuco: The Classic Kite Spot to End Your Trip
Cumbuco is the most famous kite spot in Ceara and a great place to spend the last few days before heading back to the UK. It has everything you need: strong wind, flat water lagoons, waves, and a lively town with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars.

Pros:
Reliable wind almost year-round
Variety of conditions: flat water, waves, and lagoons
Well-developed infrastructure for kite travelers
Cons:
Can be crowded, especially during holidays
Prices are higher compared to smaller villages
Where to stay: I recommend Controvento Boutique Hotel, a charming place with great access to the beach, kite spots and fantastic yoga with amazing Diana.
Where to eat: We ate wonderful and very affordable street food in the centre of Cumbuco, but there are also numerous restaurants for all budgets.
Additionally, there are numerous shops and stalls where you can purchase souvenirs before returning home. Its closeness to the airport makes it an appealing final stop before your departure.
Final Thoughts on Traveling Ceara’s Best Kite Spots
Traveling through Ceara’s best kite spots gave me a deep appreciation for the region’s diversity and natural beauty. Each kitespot offers something unique, from the beautiful lagoons of Ilha do Guajiru to the thrilling Tatajuba downwinder. Whether you want flat water freestyle, wave riding, or a mix of both, Ceara has it all.
For the best holidays, plan your trip between August and December when the wind is most consistent. Take time to explore local villages, try regional food, and connect with the kite community. Ending your trip in Cumbuco lets you enjoy a lively atmosphere and excellent facilities before heading home.
